Team History

Beach Cities Robotics has been a participant in the FIRST robotics program since late 1996, when we joined with Hope Chapel Academy, Hawthorne High School, Mira Costa High School (MCHS), and Redondo Union High School (RUHS) to form one of the first two Southern California teams, Team 61—“Circuit Breakers”. Several individuals from the community were instrumental in bringing that original team together, with lots of support from ADTECH, the consortium behind the team’s formation. In 1998, Hope Chapel formed Team 330 “Beach ‘Bots,” while Hawthorne, RUHS, and MCHS stayed together. At the time, the team was known as the “Vultures” and was sponsored by TRW and ADTECH. In 1999, Hawthorne formed Team 207, the “Metal Crafters” while RUHS and MCHS became Team 294, today known as “Beach Cities Robotics.” After winning FIRST World Championships in 2001, Beach Cities Robotics became a year-round program in spring 2002. We’ve continued to inspire and challenge students ever since.
